I know a lot of people help the homeless and there are many programs and shelters out there but I have noticed a few things that could use improvement so I had this idea for a shelter that I would start if I had the resources.
My Homeless Shelter Idea
* Numbered beds with foot lockers with keys to match so that guests can always keep their personal items safe.
* Check in like a hotel where guests are given key and other items needed during stay. 10pm - 10am
* Free toiletries kit on check in. Nothing fancy just cheap pound shop goods like razor, soap, shampoo, nail clippers etc
* Laundry room
* Showers
* Interview outfit lending system. Again nothing fancy just some nice charity shop suits, skirts & blouses
* Breakfast & supper provided
* If a guest is a regular eg. stays more than 3 nights a week, can use shelter as a permanent address for job and government related mail.
* Guests can also give back by volunteering in the shelter themselves.
* No alcohol or drugs allowed on the premises.
Will probably add more ideas to this as time goes on and if you have any yourself feel free to share.
Oh and I'm sure this goes without saying but if you have the resources to put my idea into action please do so. Would be great to see people getting the help they need rather than tossed out and forgotten just because people assume they are lazy or have substance abuse problems.
